The Piedras Blancas Rookery is the only elephant seal rookery in the world that is easily accessible, free, and open to the public every day of the year. No reservations are needed. The rookery is located seven miles north of San Simeon and about 90 miles south of Monterey on Highway 1. It was a good time to watch these huge wildlife, almost as big as sea lion in January as we were able to see the baby seal feeding the mother’s milk.
