Carroll Creek Linear Park runs through the heart of downtown Frederick. The small shallow creek (canal) has experienced the problems of excessive growth of algae during the hot summer months until the City began the “Color on the Creek” initiatives three years ago by planting variety of water plants including lotuses, water lilies, etc. basically to create shady areas to limit the growth of algae. There are also presence of koi and ducks that may also control the algae. The other equally important benefits of the project has been the aesthetical improvements of the Park that some have compared to Monets’ water garden in Giverny, France.
