Backlight Landscape Photography

Landscape, Photography

Backlight is where the light is shining towards the camera lens. It is a bit tricky but challenging to photograph. I have taken pictures of shadows and silhouettes this way in the past. During my recent trip to Letchworth State Park in western part of Finger Lakes region in New York State, I saw some beautiful foliage scenes in late afternoon when the sun was shining on the leaves making them almost translucent in front of my camera. I just could not pass them up.

Backlit is one of my favorite light conditions to photograph and glad to know you love these photos. Thanks.

      • I have a background in art but have only been using photography as a creative outlet for the last year. The abundance of techniques is overwhelming and amazing at the same time!

The advanced digital camera accompanied by the powerful photo editing software changes everything (almost) about the photography. I’m learning the new trick everyday. — Stephen
