The mountain town of Pinglin near Taipei is known for growing fine tea.

On the river edge there is a small wooded area in the center of town and one can see hundreds of Taiwan egrets and night herons call it home. The bridge across the river becomes a popular place for bird watchers and photographers. This time of the year it’s a busy place for the birds, making nests, mating and incubating.

But the most exciting scenes are watching the mother egret feeding the baby chicks,

  1. Absolutely brilliant photos ! Every one an artwork. To pick favourites are difficult but I love when mother Egret shows off
her eggs and later feed her chicks.
Nature’s beauty never ceases to amaze, how lucky we are to be part.

Thank you, Miriam. It was fun taking these shots! To see the mother egret feeding these hungry chicks were particularly moving experience.

Nice photos. I didn’t know there is such a beautiful place to visit near Taipei. I wish I could be there with you this time. Are you coming back soon? Lien-fu Huang

There are a lot of nice places to photograph near Taipei. For bird photos, Pinglin is a good spot and in the city itself, 大安森林公園 及 大湖公園 are good place to go, esp. 大安.
