American Goldfinches

We’ve been visiting the nearby Homestead Farm in Poolesville, Maryland for a number of times this summer for picking blue berries, yellow and white peaches (and soon the apples will be ready for picking). There is also a very nice flower area of colorful zinnias and sunflowers in the Farm. We visited the area yesterday primarily to look for hummingbirds, finches, bees and butterflies. There were many finches, especially American goldfinches in the field looking for the mature sunflower seeds that provided excellent photo opportunities.
