When we took the Kenya Safari in August 2013 we were hoping to see a few thousands of flamingos at Lake Nakuru, if not in tens of thousands. But, alas we did not see a single one because, as our tour guide explained, the lake water level was too high to produce algae, the main food source for flamingos. I guess I’ll just have to settle for a small flock here in the National Zoo of Washington, DC.
