Tour of Namibia – Swakopmund Area

Swakopmund looks like an old German town nestled between Atlantic Ocean and the desert of Namib-Naukluft Nation Park. It is considered as the top outdoor resort town with many European tourists, especial Germans. There are many outdoor activities to do from the ocean to desert.

It was a scenic drive from Sossusvlei to Swakopmund via the dirt roads inside the Namib Desert.

DSC_1533sWe took a catamaran tour of Walvis Bay and saw a lot of seals in the water and on the beach and many species of bird like great white pelicans. To see the famous oyster farm in the Bay and taste some of the raw oysters with champagne at the end of boat tour was quite a treat.

We also took an educational desert tour in late afternoon just outside the city in the Namib National Park to see some little creatures hidden in the sand dunes.

The ride on 4×4 jeep on the rolling sand dunes was exciting and to observe and photograph the sunset was indeed a very special experience.

As I’m sorting out more of this wonderful  Namibia tour photos, I’ll continue my postings in the near future.

Thank you. It was quite a sight to see desert meets the sea at the sunset.

  2. Marvellous shots portraying this arid environment – the desert colours and textures are otherworldly compared to rich rainfall habitats. I love the sinuous curves of the dunes and the effect of the barchan shapes. I look forward to seeing more.

Thank you so much for your comments, much appreciated. I went to Namibia to see the marvelous desert scenes and was not disappointed. Hope you did check out my first posting of the Namibia trip earlier. The sand dunes at Sossusvlei were just incredibly beautiful.
